BarCamp Phnom Penh: Announcing registration

We’re delighted to announce that BarCamp Phnom Penh, a day-long gathering for computer enthusiasts, is open now for registration.

Where: Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC), Multi-Purpose Hall, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
When: September 20, 2008. From 9:00am - 5:00pm.
Who should attend: computer enthusiasts, technologists, IT professionals, geeks, and nerds. In short, if you want technologies to empower your personal and professional life, you’re more than welcome to join this event. Registration is free.
Why: to inspire Cambodia’s IT community
What: Apart from some of the most interesting topics about technologies, we’ll also provide you refreshment as well. We’ll have wireless network available; so just bring your laptop.

What’s BarCamp? According to Wikipedia, BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

Cambodia’s Independence Monument was built in 1958

The monument was designed by the country’s most influential modern architect Vann Molyvann

Her two other books used for this ‘For the New Intellectual’:

• 1943 novel The Fountainhead

• Atlas Shrugged (about one thousand pages in length)

Lately some photographs I took during my visit to Cambodia’s magnificent ancient temple in Preah Vihear were featured in some news stories in one of the country’s popular online news sites. Please take a look at this and this.

I also got a mention here by Cambodian blogger Phearin Than as if my weblog is a comprehensive source of information about Preah Vihear.

From time to time I’ve been asked a number of questions by journalists about blog as a tool as well as blogging as an activity. As focus has, much from mainstream media, that blogging is seen as an advocacy tool by activists and so, I’ve also responded to them that in the next decade historians will look into blog for more information and resources to backup their evidence in research. Before long a number of diaries and journals, written by more sophisticated and educated people, have been used to dig stories and go beyond for discovery for academics and historians.
