Search ‘Musings from Cambodia’

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

I’ve been experimenting with Google Co-op, a platform that enables users to search my site and my other writings on Global Voices Online. Integrated at the bottom of this site, the box is a customized search engine.

My next step is to have the result page displayed as part of this site, rather than on a single page without my site sidebar et al. User-friendly site navigation is one of the most important issues in design process for every Web designer. Giving a powerful web search experience to visitors is another solution.

Site statistic:
There are currently 433 posts and 647 comments, contained within 13 categories. And Akismet has protected my site from 39699 spam comments.

The new Global Voices Online redesign site went live

Monday, April 16th, 2007

on Monday 9 April, 2007. co-Managing Editor Georgia Popplewell announced the launch of the newly redesigned site. With input from authors/editors, Web Architect Boris Anthony and his assistant Jeremy Clarke have done a superb job for the site renovation. Cool things I like most:

  • Global Voices Authors page and its individual page
  • The maps
  • The Shelf (an animated navigation tool at the very top of the page. Click any of the links and the shelf will roll down instantly, offering you all possible countries, topics, authors and search options - all without having to reload the page.)

New Year–New Idea

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

I’m back from my long vacation, an unannounced one (some readers would know that I did announce). I hope I surprised nobody for being away from my digital diary for several months in a row. Although I would say I’m delighted to announce my comeback, I can’t tell that I’ll slip away without leaving a word.

Phnom Penh today, just like the other year, is very quiet and peaceful. Well, I’m not talking about April 17, 1975, in which more than 20 years ago Phnom Penh people were forced to abandon their city homes for labor work in the countryside, I am talking about how Phnom Penhers celebrate the Khmer New Year. Most laborers left the Cambodian capital yesterday, the first day of the new year, for their home towns to enjoys holiday with relatives. Most middle class people travel to the country’s most visited places like Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Hopefully the day after tomorrow the pace of life here will get back to its full vibrancy.

In which the train of thoughts starts to flow, fly, and float again…
I am taking this new year a beginning of a starting point to keep flowing new thoughts from the same old train. Happy Khmer New Year! I wish you all the best. Sousdey Chnam Thmey–Kumnit Thmey!
