Writing the Writer

Theary Seng, author of ‘Daughter of the Killing Fields’
taken when she was strolling with the cute baby on Sisowath Quay, which runs along the west bank of the Tonle Sap River. It’s as if a coincidence to meet her in person when I was talking with my Khmerican friends over dinner; so it’s not very difficult to get a permission for this photograph. I watched CNN the other day, and was impressed by the way she talked about her painful experience during the Khmer Rouge; it was as if she was about to cry with her emotional expression on her face. But this time, she looked very smiley, and had full of love. Although I live in Cambodia all my life, I’ve not read her book yet, but will do it one day. Geoff Ryman, a writer of science fiction, fantasy and slipstream fiction, whom I know through his published book ‘ The King’s Last Song,’ will be in town later this month; hopefully there will be a chance I can meet a few more Cambodian writers as well as people in the field of arts and literature.
