In the News in Germany
Through web search, Kerstin Kohlenberg, Die Zeit news editor, found my online presence. She wrote to me that she wanted to write a story about my life in Cambodia. I met her and talked with her on a number of intersting topics in several weeks in a row in late 2005. Recent comments and emails from my readers informed me her written news article about Cambodia (in German) was lately published in the Hamburg-based German weekly newspaper.
It was her first visit to Cambodia to teach journalism at Cambodian Communication Institute. And it was when I was preparing to travel to London, my first time to fly. I can recollect that, during the time, I had a lot to talk to and ask people about my traveling, albeit I needed to gather and read the information from online sources.
Thanks you all very much indeed for sending me emails and leaving comments. My birthday is approaching, and I am delighted to get all these inspiring messages from people from different countries. I am looking toward to read this published news report.

i just read the articel at zeit.de. i’m from switzerland and very interested in history. so i read the articel… but as a programmer and blogger (dame i should train my english! i just blog in german my english is to bad) the biggest suprise for my was that the journalist found a blogger from your beautiful country!
now 40 minutes lather i have almost read every articel of your blog. you do a very well job!!!

just as the two thers, i just read the article in “die zeit”.
to be honest, i didn’t know much about cambodia before, but now i’m really keen on getting to know more. and this blog seems to be a good way of doing it.
besides, it’s particularly important to understand the perspective of an insider.
so, you’re on my bookmark list now.

Did you try to figure out what she wrote or did somebody send you a translation?
She writes you are Cambodia’s first blogger.

Given the fact how many readers “Die Zeit” has, it is somehow disappointing, that this pioneer only recieved five comments. I hope this will change.

I would put it the other way around: given how many blogs there are it is remarkable that this pioneer received already an article in the ZEIT, more than most bloggers can dream of. Besides, the pioneer receives continously a great number of comments even without articles in the ZEIT. I know both the article and the comments are well deserved.

I was born on 27 March, 1982.
I was informed about the published article by readers through emails and comments. And I am so happy to read all them. I am going to reply to their emails individually. I used both Google Language Tools and Babel Fish Translation to translate the news article, although translated text is not perfect, but understandable.

As most people, I stumbled upon your website through the newspaper article in Die Zeit.
For me, finding this article was like a “sign”. A week before, while flying with Air Canada from Toronto to Frankfurt, I read in the onboard magazine EnRoute
these short stories about Cambodia and Pol Pot’s regime.
This, combined with your story, website, the Zeit article and my willing to offer my help in a developing country might lead to something … who knows.

as everyone else I found your blog through the article in “Die Zeit”. Keep up the good work!
We have visited your country three years ago. Since we were on an organized tour we mainly got to see the usual sites: Phnom Penh, Angkor and Tonle Sap Lake. It was a wonderful and impressive experience and I want to encourage everyone thinking of a trip to Cambodia. It’s really worth a visit.
