My LifeReading

Reading is a great way to discover the world, to explore my own existence, and of course to develop myself. I believe it is a very helpful way to improve my writing skill. Not much time available to read, but I sometimes need to do it during my lunchtime break, before night sleep, and at weekends. After reading a novel about history of philosophy, I find history another interesting subject to read as well. From one book to another, after reading I seem to expand my own interest, and be more curious. I am enthusiastic to learn much more.

“To read is to empower
To empower is to write
To write is to influence
To Influence is to change
To change is to live.
~ Jane Evershed ~”

In these last few months I have more six books, The Road ahead, Sophie’s world, Around the world in 80 days, Bloodstream, True Blue, and The Bronze Horseman. Most of them are used books, but those are new enough for me to like. Sophie’s world, a five hundred pages novel, which is a US$ 4 used book. I took about a month and half to finish. Then I think I can afford to buy one every month. I hope I can build my personal library in the next few years, which it will consist of most inexpensive used-books, but interesting topics and stories. And maybe I can be become a professional writer in the next few years.

Personally I enjoy reading first hand accounts of historical events. Instead of raw facts and dates you begin to understand how history affects those involved. Two good examples are:

When Broken Glass Floats - Growing Up Under the Khmer Rouge
    by Chanrithy Him

    and

Tears of the Moon by Guo Sheng

They are both amazing tales of the stength and power of the human spirit.

    Hi Tharum,
I just discovered your web log through a friend of mine, Sopheap.

I’m very excited to have discovered a weblog (blog) by a real Khmer who live in Cambodia!! I do enjoy reading what the Khmer person has to write about his regular activities.

I recently just have mine at here:

Check it out, you’ll know what I am writing about my life here in Los Angeles.

Keep on reading and writing ! When you write, the chance you will pass on for others to read !!

    Take care!

I find Tears of the Moon interesting through a review on Amazon, and wish to get one. I do not think I can get it at used-book store very soon, but I will try to talk to the store owner. So probably it will be included in the next arrival. Hopefully it will give me another taste of Chinese culture and history apart from Russian, which I am still reading.

I have not read much about history of my home country, Cambodia, just yet. Maybe a feeling to choose and read it is different, and too emotional. But I am sure I will have to do it any time soon. It is a foundation to get know myself before getting to know others. Thanks for the books titles and comments.

    Patra,
Then thank Sopheap for spreading info about my weblog to his/her friends.

Thanks also for being interested in my online journal. I visited yours, and know you can make a good start. And I think you are making a contribution to Cambodian Blog Community (what I like to call), which is about Cambodia, and/or mostly running by Cambodian people.

Writing is one of my hobbies, and hopefully it will be part of my career. Maybe you all can read a novel and story I write some day.

    Hi ThaRum,

I will send you my copy of Tears of the Moon along with some other books. Our used bookstores sell books very cheaply. Just send me your mailing address in an email and I will get a package together for you.
