Cambodia’s Water Festival

Cambodia has started its biggest annual celebration, the Water Festival, which attracts millions of people for three days of boat-racing and partying.

It honours the reversal in flow of the Tonle Sap river - the only river in the world to behave in such a way.

It also marks the transition from the wet to the dry season, but this year’s weather has dampened the festivities.

As predicted, Cambodia has caught the edge of the typhoon that has been moving across South East Asia.

Midway through the afternoon, the clouds darkened and the heavens opened.
